Northern Lights

Northern Lights 2011

“Multi-platform” is today’s media buzzword.  Computer games spawn feature films.  TV programmes launch music careers. Social networks form the new hubs for boutique video content.  Would you like to become one of the country’s brightest new multi-platform producers working across all these genres and channels?

Northern Lights is an innovative multi-platform media production course which the green field ran twice in 2009, and once in 2010, on behalf of Vision+Media. In 2009, thirty two graduates and new entrants to the sector gained specialist training in one of four media disciplines, TV, Radio, Gaming and Digital Interactive, on a paid placement with one of the region’s top media companies. A further 16 students graduated from this innovative “digital bootcamp” in November 2010 and working in a variety of new media roles across the North of England.

We are hoping to run the programme again in 2011, but with uncertainty surrounding funding, timings are currently unclear and it is more likely that we will look to run the programme in 2012. To be alerted of future programmes or to support their delivery please click here.

Northern Lights was part of the Vision+Media Digital Media Skills Programme. Supported by the Northwest Regional Development Agency and in partnership with Skillset.

Vision+Media worked for and on behalf of the creative and digital industries in the region to help grow a world-class digital and creative economy, providing strategic leadership to help to build businesses and develop skills and talent. It has now been absorbed along with its responsibilities into Creative England.
